Are AEDs covered by insurance?
Medical insurance will most likely not cover the cost of an AED.
If you have an existing cardiac condition which increases your risk of sudden cardiac arrest which is supported by your physician, your insurance might cover the cost depending on the condition and your coverage. It never hurts to check with your insurance company before purchasing an AED.

Yeah, I need to check.
I need one for my home with three people that could possibly benefit. I use to have a Phillips, and never could find a battery or supplies and after several years gave up and pitched it.
I have a son with severe disabilities, myself and several insurance coverages, from VA, BCBS, MEDICAID, MEDICARE, AND not finding one that’s covered, is a failure on distributors.
I can get a $45K Robotic wheel chair covered, but no AED,, ? That makes no sense, and I’ve been certified to used one several times and 10 straight years in the military.
I know getting anything appproved through insurance I pay $1200 A month for. There has got to be a way to get one approved. I know how to read insurance company request wording, and it’s not that hard to get what you need approved. I have a several Doctors That would sign off it, there has got to be a way.

It’s not up to the distributors to approve an AED. That is up to the insurance carrier. Usually, if it can be shown there is a medical need for an AED, insurance carriers usually approve it. However, we always recommend checking with your insurance carrier before making the purchase.

Will Social Security cover a AED ? How about Blue Cross? Finally does the VA cover AED.

Between YOU & your DOCTOR, IF it’s needed or “needed”, it can be written up that way and the proper codes entered. It is not hard at all, Docs want to get paid, Insurance companies already get paid, so…..YOU NEED TO GET PAID TO STAY ALIVE.
