Because everyone knows that the medical industry is too over priced. Everyone talks about how Doctors and Nurses and the like shouldn’t have to bring their prices down to help people. The practice of medicine first come about with the very well intent of helping save lives, not get rich off of it. The craziest part about the AED prices, is that the shock pads for CHILDREN cost more than the ones for us adults do. The machines are over priced, the accessories are over priced and so forth. They’ll stay expensive as long as there are people out there willing to pay those prices. The companies that build these aren’t in it for the life saving factor, otherwise they’d be readily available and much more affordable for the everyday person. They say it’s because of the R&D that goes into it, okay, I’ll buy that, but it doesn’t go into each and every single machine that is produced on that line. You will never make me believe that. If they were cheaper to buy and the accessories to go with them were as well, more would be sold in higher quantities even. Then more lives would be saved. But it’s not about the lives that can and should be saved. It’s about the money and the lives they see fit to save.

China will make them for a song. Just like they made solar panels much cheaper than here. After all the awareness MNFootball made, AEDs will come down in price.

I also belive manufactures should make a profit
but not a killing.

It’s a lot more than just the cost of electronic components. There is the cost to manufacture, FDA and patent cost (which are crazy expensive), and ultimately the cost of the overhead for the business selling it. The business is going to need to make some money. It would be like telling a Doctor or Nurse that they should work for free or for half their wage because they can save lives.

Lives are lost purely because of the cost of these relatively cheap to produce life savers.
If these machine manufacturers were not so profit grabbing more lives will be saved.

Greed. Simple as that.
I used to do an electronics course and the actual components for this cost pennies. So even when you add in research and labour costs, it’s nowhere near a thousand pounds / dollars. Yet that’s how expensive these things are. Thinking about the impact these things could have doesn’t give me a magic thousand pounds to spare.

There are so many out there for sale, they should alot cheaper than they are..not many people can afford these machines
