Summary
AED acquirers are responsible for ensuring expected users are trained in CPR/AED and must notify EMS of the AED's location and type.
Medical oversight by a licensed physician is required to ensure proper training, EMS notification, and AED maintenance. The AED must be maintained and tested according to the manufacturer's operational guidelines.
Good Samaritan protection from civil liability is extended to rescuers as well as owners or operators who install or provide an AED. This protection is also offered to medical directors of AED programs and CPR/AED trainers.
